about
Flying a Cessna 172 over the skies of Seattle.
I am currently an undergraduate senior studying Computer Science at Columbia University. When not firing up improved cookstoves for Engineers without Borders, I can probably be found wandering in the Apple Store at odd hours or on a snowy peak somewhere. Even though I really enjoy the low-level technical aspect of Computer Science, I also really enjoy the high level (but no less technical) side of Computer Science including user interface design. My other academic interests include machine learning, natural language processing and finance.
I first heard of Interaction Design when exploring career ideas at some famous design studios such as Pentagram, IDEO and Frog Design. I have always been interested in design. When I was little, I used to take apart everyday objects and tried to understand how they worked. I would then ponder for hours on why they were designed that way and then draw in my sketchbook what the “next, improved version” of the object would be. However, I never considered this as a career. Fast-forward 12 years and I’m reconsidering design as a career, only with a slight (computer related) twist. I hope to get a more “formal” introduction to Interaction Design through this class, further explore design as a career and build a portfolio.
